Explanation of AB99-
This bill sponsored by Assemblyman John Ellison would reduce the burden imposed on taxpayers and governments by Nevada’s “prevailing wage” laws. Nevada’s prevailing-wage laws require governments to pay above-market rates on taxpayer-funded construction projects. On average in Clark County prevailing wages mark up 60% of the market rate for the same job. Prevailing wages are a means for Democrats to pay off labor unions. This corruption cost the taxpayers money; in 2009 and 2010 prevailing wages cost Nevadan’s an additional one billion dollars. This bill would increase the threshold required for paying prevailing wages from $100,000 to $250,000.

Below is a sample script of what we need to tell legislators. Please make your public testimony personal, do not read the full statement as to not repeat others who were sent this same script:
“Vote yes on AB99. Please spend taxpayer money more wisely and efficiently by increasing the threshold required for paying prevailing wages to $250,000. This will allow regular maintenance and repair projects to be accomplished without paying the exorbitant prevailing wage. This will benefit our colleges, universities and students.”
