Chairman Michael J. McDonald’s Statement on the Lawsuit for Legislative Transparency
LAS VEGAS—Please see the following statement from Chairman Michael J. McDonald regarding the lawsuit filed to open the Nevada Legislature:
“The Nevada Republican Party always stands to shine a bright light on the activity of our elected officials. The Legislative Commission, led by Nicole Cannizzaro, is unconstitutionally keeping the People’s House closed to the citizens of Nevada. We strongly support the newly filed bipartisan lawsuit against Steve Sisolak, Aaron Ford, Nicole Cannizzaro, and Brenda Erdoes. “
“Article 4, Section 15, of the Nevada Constitution provides “[T]he doors of each House shall be kept open during its session, and neither shall, without the consent of the other, adjourn for more than three days nor to any other place than that in which they may be holding their sessions. The meetings of all legislative committees must be open to the public, except meetings held to consider the character, alleged misconduct, professional competence, or physical or mental health of a person.”
“Our Constitution is not ambiguous. We hope that our Courts will do the right thing, and hold these lawbreaking officials who want to squash free speech fully accountable for their actions.”
