Carson City Update – May 19, 2019
Democrats unveiled their most controversial proposal of the legislative session, and boy are they feeling the heat.
As I have mentioned throughout the session, there has been a big question on where Democrats would find additional money for our schools. This week, they finally announced how.
Democrat leaders and the Governor want to divert money from the Millennium scholarships and school safety to balance their education budget.
Seriously. They want to take money away from securing our schools and protecting our students.
Keep that in mind the next time you hear a Nevada Democrat legislator talk about school safety. It’s nothing but a talking point for them. When faced with a funding dilemma, they jumped at a chance to raid funds meant to protect Nevada children.
This is beyond disturbing and we need to demand Democrat leaders to protect Nevada schools. Contact the Speaker, Majority Leader, and Governor and urge your fellow Republicans to do so as well!
Governor Sisolak – 775-684-5670, email form
Speaker Jason Frierson – 775-684-8537
Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro – 775-684-1475,
[email protected]
What the Democrats are proposing is both inexcusable and irresponsible. Call these leaders and tell them as much.

Protect our Water…
Tomorrow, Democrats will be voting on a measure that would devastate our rural community. A.B. 95 would put domestic wells under the purview of the State Water Engineer and allow bureaucrats to take up to 75 percent of an owner’s water supply.
This water grab would hurt rural Nevadans. There is a reason why domestic wells were exempted from the statute that established the State Water Engineer’s authority. Clearly urban Democrats are ignorant to rural Nevadans’ way of life.
Please take a minute and call or email every Democrat Senator and urge them to vote NO on A.B. 95 tomorrow morning.

One Last Shot…
The National Popular Vote legislation passed out of committee last week, which means we have just one more shot to protect our voice in the presidential process.
I’m not going to ask you to call or email every Senator. That’s not fruitful. We’ve identified just a few key swing votes. If we can influence them to vote NO on A.B. 186, we can stop it.
If it passes, Governor Sisolak WILL sign the bill!
Please take a minute to call or email these Senators:
Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro – (775)-684-1475,
[email protected]
Yvanna Cancela – (775) 684-1427 , [email protected]
Marcia Washington – (775) 684-1429, [email protected]
Mo Denis – (775) 684-1431, [email protected]
Chris Brooks – (775) 684-1422, [email protected]
And please urge fellow Republicans to contact them as well! This is our last shot. Let’s make it count.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out. Email me at [email protected], or call me at 515-512-0858 and I would be more than happy to help you out.
And as always, if there are any other urgent matters before my next update, I will be sure to let you know. In the meantime, please forward this email to your fellow Nevada Republicans. It is crucia
l we keep people updated on what is going on in Carson City if we are going to ensure Republican voices are heard during the legislative session.
Thanks for all you do,
Josh Skaggs
