Urgent Action Alert from NV Leg- Oppose AB 255 & SB 10

WE OPPOSE BAD BILL AB 255
Date: 3/30/2021- Tuesday
Time: 1:00PM
Committee – Assembly Education
AB 255 – revising provisions governing the election and appointment of members of the board of trustees of certain school districts.
This bill would make 3 out of the 7 School Board Members in Washoe and Clark County appointed. Four members will still be elected from the districts established by the Board of County Commissioners.
Breakdown of appointed positions:
– 1 member appointed by County Commissioners.
– 2 members appointed by the two most populous incorporated cities in the County with each appointing one member.
Do not take away our right to vote for all of our School Board members in Clark and Washoe Counties by making 3 of the members appointed. This will lead to control of our school boards by the government instead of by the voice of the people!

WE OPPOSE BAD BILL SB10
Date: 3/30/2021 – Tuesday
Committee: Revenue and Economic Development
Time: 1:00PM
SB 10 – Relating to taxation; revising provisions governing the calculation of the amount of certain partial abatements of property taxes; and providing other matters properly relating thereto. – Increases property taxes
Currently, in Nevada law, there is a formula for increasing property taxes for Single Family Homes and residential property with a 3% annual cap and for commercial property with an 8% annual cap. This means that the increase will be calculated between zero percent increase and 3% for single-family homes and residential property between 3% or 8% for commercial property. This bill means that property taxes will be figured not between zero and 3% or zero and 8% annually, but figured at the caps of 3% or 3% to 8%. This will result in increased property taxes for single-family homes, residential property (rentals), and commercial property. Can you afford to pay more property taxes?
