An enjoyable part of this 2015 Spring Meeting was being able to listen to the various potential and declared 2016 presidential candidates. We were able to hear and talk to Carly Fiorina, Senator Rick Santorum, and governors Jeb Bush and Mike Huckabee. To date, nine sanctioned debates for the 2016 candidates have been scheduled, with three additional debates to be determined.
Sitting in on the meeting of the Committee on Arrangements was very interesting. This committee will be addressing the enormous task of arranging the accommodations, transportation, security and convention site for those attending the 2016 Republican National Convention in the city of Cleveland, OH. My initial impression is that the hotels and their relation to the convention site will be very similar to what we had in Tampa, FL, being very spread out around the city.
Being the RNC member representing Nevada on the Standing Rules Committee, a rule change occurred in Rule #3, Term of Office for National Committee Members. These members’ terms will now commence starting on the first day of the Winter Meeting following the General Election, for four years, with their term ending the day prior to the Winter Meeting after 4 years. This makes much more sense because it allows our term to start and end with each 4-year presidential election cycle.
In our General Meeting on Friday morning, all six resolutions that were presented to the Resolutions Committee on Wednesday afternoon, were voted upon as a package and were unanimously adopted.
