I can’t thank those who joined us to push back on the Democrats’ latest gun grab enough. We were a force to be reckoned with on Monday, with many voicing their opposition during the hearing, and then the rally on the steps of the capitol.
Our fight against this bill was covered by news outlets across the state, beginning Sunday night when Fox 5 in Las Vegas shared a statement from Chairman McDonald.
Testimony from our Vice Chair, Jim DeGraffenreid, was featured in KOLO 8’s coverage of the hearing while part of Chairman McDonald’s speech at the rally was featured in a segment on KTVN 2 in Reno.
Our media coverage was phenomenal.
The committee didn’t hold a vote on the gun grab legislation, so there is still time to sway legislators to do the right thing and leave our Second Amendment alone.
Call or email your legislator today and tell them to oppose the omnibus gun legislation!
On Your Radar…
As the price of doing business goes up in Nevada, entrepreneurs are turning to automation. As people are replaced with machines, our government is getting less money for things like unemployment insurance.
So what is the government’s solution? Forcing businesses to pay unemployment insurance fees for that machine.
Seriously. Take a look at A.B. 394:
AB 394: Requires employees that use certain self-service devices to pay a fee. (BDR 53-959): AN ACT relating to unemployment compensation; requiring an employer that uses certain self-service devices to pay a fee; and providing other matters properly relating thereto. Instead of trying to lower the cost of operating a business in order to encourage owners to hire more people, Democrats in Carson City want to these businesses to pay more. It’s insane, it’s bad policy, and it will force small businesses to close up shop.
A hearing for this absurd bill hasn’t been scheduled yet, but I will be sure to let you know once one is.
Policy bills must be voted out of their committee of origin this week, which means we will have our hands full.
Bills to allow state employees to collectively bargain, put a cap on charter schools, expand abortion, allow convicted felons the right to vote, infringe on our Second Amendment rights, and many more must be passed out of committee by Friday, April 12.
If a bill you’re passionate about hasn’t had a vote yet, please be sure to contact legislators on the committee this week.
If you have a question on what committee a bill is in or what legislators sit on the committee, please do not hesitate to reach out. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call me at 515-512-0858 and I would be more than happy to help you out.
As hearings for bills of concern are scheduled, I will be sure to let you know. Let’s make sure Democrats know just how dangerous these proposals are.
If there are any other urgent matters before my next update, I will also be sure to let you know. In the meantime, please forward this email to your fellow Nevada Republicans. It is crucial we keep people updated on what is going on in Carson City if we are going to ensure Republican voices are heard during the legislative session.
Thanks for all you do,
