Don’t Expect Cortez Masto To Break From Reid On Funding Our Defense
With America facing an increasingly daunting array of terror threats around the world, funding America’s defense could not be more important. But in an outrageous display of partisanship last night, Senate Democrats led by Harry Reid filibustered a key defense appropriations bill, choosing to play political games with America’s national security. With America’s protection at stake, will Reid’s hand-picked candidate, Catherine Cortez Masto, stand up to her liberal mentor and oppose his partisan gamesmanship? With her record as a “loyal Democratic foot soldier“, we doubt it.
Two days ago, President Obama announced that he will leave 3,000 more troops in Afghanistan than originally planned this year in response to a situation that remains precarious there. New reports following recent terror attacks in Iraq, Turkey, and Bangladesh as well show that ISIS continues to grow as a threat to the United States and its allies abroad, with CIA Director John Brennan claiming that ISIS’s size now far exceeds what Al Qaeda had at its height. But even with President Obama and Director Brennan’s warnings, Harry Reid and Senate Democrats are committed to playing games instead of facing these challenges.
Despite America’s perilous security issues, don’t hold your breath for Catherine Cortez Masto to break from her liberal mentor on this. Throughout her 21 years as a career politician, she has repeatedly placed party loyalty over the public good. Earlier this week, she even said she wouldn’t rule out following Hillary Clinton’s example of using a secret home email server after strong rebukes from the FBI Director, who called it a dangerous precedent and a fireable offense in other federal agencies.
Even with American lives at stake, Democrats like Harry Reid and Catherine Cortez Masto remain committed to placing partisan loyalties over their country’s security. Nevada deserves a Senator who will set aside political games when it comes to funding our defense, clearly Cortez Masto is not willing to do so.
